Ascend: Reborn [sort of a review]

Ascend: New G… um, Ascend: Hand Of K… wait a minute, eh hem… Ascend: Reborn has returned to us after a lengthy hiatus. I’m not certain what makes this game so attractive at first. Perhaps it’s the brutish character you play as or the simplicity of game design and controls. It’s a great game to just mindlessly slug your way across the map without much thought of anything else.
You are a Caos. A type of demi-god serving a another god [false god, blatantly false god] while on a mission to defile altars, convert followers and ultimately take down yet another kind of demi-god known as a Titan.

Here’s my Caos desecrating an altar. This is done by grabbing a priest and hacking off his head.
I was able to run through the entire game in a fairly short amount of time with little resistance or difficulty so after awhile the game becomes a bit boring as now that you’ve finished the game all that is left is to invade opposing players territories and fight to capture their land. This is done by defeating a Caos the opposing player has built but does not control during the fight so it’s really quite easy to manipulate the battle using cheese moves etc.
I suppose it’s cool when you first enter into the sanctuary and see all the Caos seated upon thrones and pedestals of honor. It makes you want to start leveling so you can be put on display. Likely you’ll just end up having your own private room with a few Caos you’ve ascended lined up against a wall. You’ll be able to regularly check them to see what type of fight record they have, wins/losses etc. Well, here it is:

Well, that’s probably the best Caos I’ve ascended so far and he doesn’t do all that great. He got killed once and has run off to do other things like wait for Diablo IV to release. Yeah, I didn’t build him very well, I didn’t know what the hell I was doing and you can’t seem to wipe the slate clean and start over so be careful. They say to ascend every time you are able as soon as your are able. Not sure I did that, but meh, I’ve grown bored of it already anyway and now only play occasionally in order to satisfy my desire to press buttons on a controller. The combo moves are very satisfying if not overly simple. XXY rinse repeat and various combinations thereof.
Alright there’s a little more to this game then what I’ve mentioned here but if you’re interested then you’ll appreciate me not telling you everything about it [I’ve said too much already]. It’s a free game, the loot you find inside chests is decent and will get you through the battles so no need to pay to win here. There are spells and curses and runes that also aid you on your journey. Interaction with other players in your same instance is not great but it’s fun as you are able to either curse or bless them with whatever charms you have in your possession. There is no hand to hand combat with others, as I said earlier just the character they built that is run by a mindless AI is all you’ll encounter in battle at least for now.
It’s worth a try as it won’t cost you anything. It is fun at first and may provide a nice distraction for you every so often as you wait for another game to download or what not.
I played this game with much enthusiasm as I ascended my first few Caos but it became quite repetitive and even a little bit boring. There are promises of new content becoming available later on so I’ll probably revisit once in a blue moon or so.
SWARTHOS – out
