Lawlessness

The absurdity of modern day America. I began to notice it increasing ten to fifteen years ago, people in cars rolling through stop signs. Over time it progressed to full on blow through the stop sign like it wasn’t there. Soon that became the norm for traffic lights as well, leading to the carnage we sometimes see on the news where families are destroyed and innocent people’s lives changed forever in bad ways.

Well, this morning I’m driving home from the plant down a very busy, 40 mph traffic, three lanes each direction street. Up ahead of me are a couple each riding their bicycles, the man on the sidewalk (The same sidewalk with young children walking to school on), the woman near the edge of the road. They aren’t going too fast and we are all approaching an intersection with a red light up ahead.

I carefully drive past the couple and turn on my signal to make a right at the light, I come to a full stop to check the flow coming from my left before making a legal right on red turn. It was clear to go so I proceeded to execute my move when all of a sudden, the couple I had passed 30 feet ago start hollering and screaming that I’m cutting them off! You see, they had no intention of stopping at that red light and were pissed off that I had interrupted their quest to break the law. With my window already down I managed to holler back, don’t run red lights! (I really had to keep myself in check for my blood was boiling, but now at a ripe 61 years of age I have managed to finally mature… just a little bit)

As I drove away I could see them in my rear-view mirror, you guessed it, running that red light anyway and with cars wanting to travel through a green lit intersection having to wait for them as they continued on their illegal, middle finger to law and order ride down the road. Yep, what a world this is, what a country of lawless people we are now. When things break down at the smallest of levels there are always repercussions up the line. Visited the NY Subway system lately?

Matthew 24:12
And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.
